Evolutionists who consider merged chromosome#2 a proof of evolution & contra-Creationism,what is the advantage?

Gee, I wish I was an evolutionary biologist but really, I'm a lay person who accepts mainstream science like, oh, the theory of electromagnetism and the theory of evolution. I'd consider alternatives but so far the best I have heard is "unexplained magic man in the sky did it with magic" which, well, leaves something to be desired IMVHO.
