Grammatical to construct a sentence in which the object of ENVY is attribute rather than holder thereof...e.g.?

Is it correct to say, "I envy your faith," or does convention dictate that one should rather say, "I envy you, because of your faith?" Or is either construction acceptable? Thanks. I'd like as many opinions as possible.
