Help!? With "The Great Gatsby" essay for a highschool sopre english II cl?

I need to write an essay about how the Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald exemplifies the withering of the American Dream. I don't even know where to start so anything would be very beneficial and appreciated. I guess we have to extract quotes from the book too. Can anyone help?
